Comments on The Diversity Project: “This program was one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had. Not only did I get to design my own research project, but I was able to do it in a place where people go to vacation. I definitely valued the networking opportunities and used them to my advantage to help me get into my graduate program. My experience allowed me to focus on what I wanted to accomplish in the long run and gave me confidence to apply to a Ph.D. program”
Where is he now? Christian is currently doing his PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UCLA with Dr. Lawren Sack.

Comments on The Diversity Project: “The Diversity Project allowed me the opportunity to learn about myself as a scientist, advance my skills and interest in marine field and lab research, and provide helpful information for graduate school. The Diversity Project has had a positive impact on me for my future interest. I’ve learned that there are a lot of opportunities in the science field beyond a classroom, and this passion I have for science communication can be fulfilled”.
Where is she now: After graduation, she served as the News Desk Editor for Issuer Direct Corporation and social media/photo gallery editor-volunteer for Voices for Biodiversity. After completing her masters at American University, she took a position as Senior Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton.

Comments on The Diversity Project: ”
Simply put, the diversity project is a one of a kind experience. From diving 80 feet in the South Pacific to eating tacos on Venice Beach with Paul, this experience was like none other. What I valued most was the opportunity to engage in scientific research outside the United States.
When having conversations about issues such as the degradation of coral reefs, you have to be willing to work with people from around the world. Issues such as these affect everyone, and thus everyone’s perspective and input is important. The diversity project afforded me the opportunity to not only conduct research abroad, but to also interact with and learn about people of different cultures. This experience challenged me to try new and exciting things and to step outside my comfort zone. Opportunities such as these are critical for any aspiring scientist, especially one who wishes to address global issues. Even though I will not be pursuing a career in marine biology, I have learned valuable lessons that will undoubtedly contribute to my future success as a research scientist. ”
Where is he now? Sahim fished up his degree at Morehouse, and spent an amazing 5 years at Genetech. In Fall 2021 he began his PhD at UC Berkeley.
