The CCGP brings together many of California’s leading experts working at the interface of genomics and conservation science. We are a state-funded initiative with a single goal:

To produce the most comprehensive multispecies genomic dataset ever assembled to help manage and protect regional biodiversity in the face of climate change.

How we’re impacting conservation


Sequencing full genomes for thousands of organisms

We are generating, and making publicly available, full genome sequences for approximately 22,000 individual plants, vertebrates and invertebrate animals representing nearly 150 genera and 230 carefully selected species.

Generating genomic maps and tools

We intend to leverage this genomic data to tackle critical biological and conservation issues. We are developing maps to visualize meaningful genomic variation such as climate resilient hotspots and corridors to connect these hotspots.

Safeguarding California’s ecological and economic future

We plan to identify critical populations and land to help prioritize conservation. In addition to providing genomic resources for countless future projects in comparative and landscape genomics, our efforts will provide California policymakers with key resources and strategies.
