
{"id":527,"date":"2018-04-09T11:27:40","date_gmt":"2018-04-09T18:27:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.lifesci.ucla.edu\/eeb-fonglab\/?page_id=527"},"modified":"2021-01-13T19:11:33","modified_gmt":"2021-01-14T03:11:33","slug":"recent-news-in-the-fong-lab","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.lifesci.ucla.edu\/eeb-fonglab\/recent-news-in-the-fong-lab\/","title":{"rendered":"Recent News in the Fong Lab"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>January 2021 &#8211; starting the new year off with a burst of lots of time and effort coming to fruition!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong><span style=\"color: #cc99ff\">We have FOUR new publications from the Fong Lab!<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Current and former Fong Lab members participated in a graduate seminar led by Caitlin Fong and Peggy Fong, which resulted in<span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<span style=\"color: #cc99ff\"><em>Flip it and reverse it: reasonable changes in designated controls can flip synergisms to antagonisms<\/em><\/span> accepted in <strong>Science of the Total Environment!<\/strong> Congratulations to Camille Gaynus, Shalanda Grier, Emily Ryznar, Lauren Smith, Shayna Sura, Regina Zweng, and Tiara Moore from the Fong Lab, along with Kelcie Chiquillo, Ben Ha, and Aji Angorro from the UCLA EEB Department!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Shalanda Grier is an author of\u00a0<span style=\"color: #cc99ff\"><em>Storms may disrupt top-down control of algal turf on fringing reefs<\/em>.<span style=\"color: #000000\"> This article is the result of an undergraduate group project from the UCLA 2020 Field Marine Biology Quarter (FMBQ) and is accepted in <strong>Coral Reefs!<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Shayna Sura is first author of <span style=\"color: #cc99ff\"><em>Selective consumption of\u00a0Macroalgae species by herbivorous fishes suggests reduced functional complementarity on a fringing reef in Moorea, French Polynesia.<\/em><\/span> This article is published in <strong>Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology<\/strong>, check it out <a href=\"https:\/\/authors.elsevier.com\/a\/1cOke51aUd6dr\">here!<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #cc99ff\"><em>Responses of two common coral reef macroalgae to nutrient addition, sediment addition, and mechanical damage<\/em><\/span>\u00a0is accepted in <strong>Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology.<\/strong> This is the culmination of an undergraduate group project from\u00a0the UCLA 2017 Marine Biology Quarter (MBQ)!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>October 2020<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Emily Ryznar was awarded a California Sea Grant 2021 Fellowship and will serve her 12-month fellowship with the Delta Stewardship Council!
