SPRING QUARTER 2015
CHANGES TO THE [BIOLOGY/EBE/MARINE BIOLOGY] MAJOR

Chemistry 14CL/30BL is no longer required for the [Biology/EBE/Marine Biology] major. However, some professional schools or graduate programs may still require an additional quarter of chemistry. Please check with the individual programs to determine if you need to complete Chemistry 14CL/30BL.

FALL QUARTER 2010
CHANGES TO THE BIOLOGY MAJOR

Students declaring the Biology major in FALL QUARTER 2010 OR LATER will no longer be required to complete the following course:

CHEMISTRY and BIOCHEMISTRY 153L: Biochemical Methods I Lab (4 units).

For students who choose to take Chem 153L, this course can be applied as one of the three upper division science electives in CATEGORY 5 of the Biology major. Chem 153L CANNOT be applied as one of the lab courses required for CATEGORY 3 of the Biology major — NO EXCEPTIONS.

*NOTE: Chem 153L may still be a pre-requisite for professional schools (medical, dental, pharmacy, etc.). It is your responsibility to check with the schools that you plan to apply to determine whether or not Chem 153L is a required pre-requisite.

Please note that continuing students are NOT going to be changed to the new major requirements automatically. A WRITTEN request (made via e-mail) must be made to change to the new requirements.

All requests must be made via e-mail. All correspondence must include your first and last name, your UID and your Degree Expected Term (DET), e.g., Fall 2010, Spring 2011, etc.

Requests should be sent to eebundergrad@lifesci.ucla.edu with the Subject heading “Fall 2010 Biology Major Requirements.”

**The first day that requests from continuing students will be accepted is MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2010 (beginning of Week 1). Requests made prior to this date will be discarded.**

DECLARED SUMMER 2010 and FALL 2010 GRADUATES:

Students whose DET is Summer 2010 or earlier CANNOT change to the new requirements.

Students whose DET is FALL 2010, and who wish to change to the Fall 2010 major requirements, must send their written request (via e-mail) to the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Undergraduate Office NO EARLIER THAN MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2010 (beginning of Week 1), and NO LATER THAN MONDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. (beginning of Week 2).
