{"id":1467,"date":"2025-09-07T13:40:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-07T20:40:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.lifesci.ucla.edu\/eeb-shafferlab\/?p=1467"},"modified":"2026-02-09T09:19:03","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T17:19:03","slug":"congratulations-to-robert-and-zac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.lifesci.ucla.edu\/eeb-shafferlab\/congratulations-to-robert-and-zac\/","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations Zac!"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>Postdoc <a href=\"https:\/\/zacmacdonald.com\/\">Zac MacDonald<\/a> recently moved on from the Shaffer Lab to an assistant professorship at UC Riverside\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>After completing his PhD at the University of Alberta, Zac came to UCLA in 2021. His postdoc was funded by the La Kretz Center, a Canadian fellowship, the California Conservation Genomics Project, and several grants from the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).<\/p>\r\n<p>During his time at UCLA, Zac built a strong collaborative network with the USFWS and a number of American labs where he brought his genomics expertise to the identification and conservation of butterflies and other insects. In 2025, Zac started a new position as an Assistant Professor in the Entomology Department at UC Riverside&#8211; just down the road from UCLA.
