Deep Inquiring

In the age of “deep learning”, we revisit foundational topics related to thinking: historical, philosophical, social, ethical and aesthetic research that either grounds or re-orients the public debates and questions around hot-button topics like AI, neuro-enhancement, or the ethical claims and questions associated with them. Deep inquiring includes structured, long-term programs of research. They are ongoing, multifaceted explorations designed to deepen our understanding through research, collaboration, and community engagement. Research proposals are developed through faculty feedback on our Faculty Seminars, and in collaboration with scholars at UCLA and beyond.

Ongoing Conversation

Ongoing Conversation is a series of activities created to engage audiences from undergraduates to university faculty in discussions on critical topics across artificial intelligence, neuroscience, and narrative studies. With a variety of formats, ranging from public lectures to podcasts and faculty seminars, each activity is designed to deepen understanding and spark fresh perspectives on the challenges that shape our world and future.

Student Research

We actively collaborate with students at UCLA from different backgrounds who actively explore critical issues that have a far-reaching impact on society. These projects give students the opportunity to explore new ideas, ask challenging questions, and contribute fresh perspectives to ongoing debates. With support from faculty and peers, each project provides valuable insights into today’s most complex subjects, encouraging a spirit of collaboration and innovation.
