Congratulations Zac!

Postdoc Zac MacDonald recently moved on from the Shaffer Lab to an assistant professorship at UC Riverside

After completing his PhD at the University of Alberta, Zac came to UCLA in 2021. His postdoc was funded by the La Kretz Center, a Canadian fellowship, the California Conservation Genomics Project, and several grants from the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).

During his time at UCLA, Zac built a strong collaborative network with the USFWS and a number of American labs where he brought his genomics expertise to the identification and conservation of butterflies and other insects. In 2025, Zac started a new position as an Assistant Professor in the Entomology Department at UC Riverside– just down the road from UCLA. This makes our plans for continued collaborative work a lot easier, we hope!
